NSW is comprised of musicians from the tri-city area of Newark, Fremont and Union City and includes high school and college students as well as amateur and professional musicians. The band specializes in performing standard marches and the more traditional symphonic band literature, but also performs Broadway and contemporary selections.

Rather than attempting to portray the variety of wind instruments found in NSW the image of a conductor produces immediate visual recognition. The backdrop of the concert shell creates a symphonic environment and brings focus to the central figure.
